Aftershock

STARRING: Eli Roth, Ariel Levy, Nicolas Martinez, Andrea Osvart
YEAR: 2013
RUN TIME: 1hr, 29mins
MY RATING: 7/10

A group of 3 male travelers (Gringo,Ariel & Pollo)  are partying and enjoying life in Chile. Let me just say watching Eli Roth dance was the best part of this film! Just kidding but, it was good for a laugh. The first half of the film is beautiful shots of Chile and nightclub hopping over the span of two days. On the second night out our travelers meet a group of female travelers (half sisters Kylie & Monica & a friend Irina) and plan to hang out with them for the
rest of their trip. The travelers then go to an underground nightclub when a massive earthquake hits interrupting their night of fun. Word spreads that the earthquake has triggered a tsunami causing even more panic for everyone. From this point it is just absolute chaos. Chilean Police are patrolling the streets and warning everyone that convicts have escaped from the jail and are roaming freely. A group of convicts spot the girls and begin following the travelers in an attempt to rob them and rape the ladies, so the aftershocks are the least of their worries. Trying to find safe and stable ground while hiding from the convicts proves challenging for our travelers. The paranoid citizens of Chile find it hard to believe the travelers aren't convicts and disallow them to hide out in there complexes forcing the group to keep running. I enjoyed this film from start to finish. Even though I knew the whole time that our protagonists were going to experience tragedy due to an earthquake the first half of the film made me almost forget. The acting was great, everyone did a good job, were believable and like able a part of me didn't want to see bad things happen to these characters but, of course the horror fan in me did. The special effects were excellent and realistic I wanna say it was all practical but, if there was any CGI it was done very well seeing as I didn't even notice it. The film seemed short however, I think it felt that way since I was enjoying it so much. While it was more of a thriller than a horror film this is a total recommendation and if you haven't already, go check it out!
